Hi everyone!

Some friends at Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Princeton and many other universities in the US are organizing a series of workshops for high school and college students in Mexico. These science clubs are intended to encourage students to pursue a scientific career in either academia or industry. Especially now, that Mexico experiences a time with many aspiring young people eager to learn and full of motivation but with only few opportunities to see beyond their own noses we feel the urgent need to provide them with possibilities to expand their own horizons.

The courses of the upcoming edition are to be held in summer ‘15 in Monterrey, Veracruz, Merida, Ensenada, Guanajuato, and Oaxaca for which we are currently inviting graduate students, postdocs and young researchers to help us preparing a one-week long, full-time workshop on the topic(s) of their choosing. Reimbursements of traveling, hotel accommodations and materials for the workshops will be provided.

The main purpose of the science clubs is to present the students with exciting topics of science and technology, preferably of the STEM fields, but definitely not limited to those, and at the same time establish and expand the networking opportunities between instructors, students and professionals in Mexico. Our country needs young and creative minds taking advantage of the enormous knowledge and skill set, which our instructors may provide them in the long term, in order to successfully face the challenges of this century.

So far we have been sponsored by the Mexican Secretary of Education and of Energy (SENER), the Mexican Council of Science and Technology (CONACyT), The Mexican Academy of Sciences (AMC), the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the local universities and governments, and private sponsors like the Fundacion de Mexico en Harvard, COMEXUS-Fullbright Garcia Robles Foundation, and the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Students, among others. Recently this project won the 3rd price in the Bridge Education Innovation Pitch Competition from Harvard Graduate School of Education and we have been hosted by the Harvard Innovation Lab for the past summer.

All we need is your participation!
