Disney’s Gravity Falls was already a pretty amazing cartoon, but what cartoon can’t be made better with a well-chosen cameo? This season on Gravity Falls, Neil deGrasse Tyson is paying a visit… and he’s voicing Waddles the Pig.
Waddles is Mabel Pines’ prized pet pig, and he’s pretty much always rooting around the Mystery Shack in search of something else to eat. In this particular episode, Little Gift Shop of Horrors, he’s accidentally ingested some sort of brain goop.
He has not, as Mabel proposes, been possessed by the spirit of a nerd. He’s transformed into a super-intelligent ursine. Who better to voice such an animal than the host of Fox’s Cosmosresurrection and the man who comes to Bill Nye’s rescue in the geekiest Epic Rap Battle to date?
Gravity Falls has a pretty stellar cast that includes John DiMaggio (Bender on Futurama and Jake on Adventure Time), former South Park writer and all-around funny girl Kirsten Schaal, SNL alum Will Forte, and Jason Ritter (who you may also have caught on an episode of Drunk History).
Tyson joins an amazing list of guest stars who have gracedGravity Falls. Mark Hammill, John Oliver, Nick Offerman, Larry King, and even Firefly’s Nathan Fillion have previously taken part in the hilarity.
Adding Neil deGrasse Tyson to the mix is a stroke of genius, particularly to play a braniac pig. Little Gift Shop of Horrorsbrings a smile to my face the way watching Thomas the Tank Engine with my son did years ago when I realized that George Carlin was narrating.
It’s pure geek gold. Well done, Disney!
