A storm lingers on the mountainside in northern Iceland. Mountains affect local weather in a lot of different ways: They alter air flow in a way that can enhance or dampen snowstorms, and land on the side of a mountain that faces away from the wind tends to be much drier than land on the windy side of a peak.
